Hanna Gonzalez is a mixed-media artist who was born and raised in a small town called Garden City located in Southwest Kansas. Her work is driven by a connection to portraiture. One of her primary mediums is charcoal, which she uses for its messy nature and ability to capture value, emotion, and depth. While portraiture is at the center of her artworks, Hanna enjoys expanding into a variety of subjects and mixed-media techniques. She explores anything from abstract textures to traditional studies. Her creative process often expands from traditional materials to experimental materials allowing each piece to have its own unique traits. Her artistic influences include Peter Paul Rubens, Stephen Gammell, Caspar David Friedrich, and Basil Gogos. These inspirations combine to form the motivation Hanna uses to stylize her artworks.

ARTIST STATEMENT

As an artist from Garden City in Southwest Kansas, my work centers on portraiture and the emotional depth it can communicate. I am drawn to the way a face can tell a story, and each subject I paint or draw carries a unique presence, history, and energy. My goal is to capture that essence through careful attention to detail, color, texture, and scale. Working across various mediums and subjects allows me to explore different ways of expressing emotion and individuality. Through my portraits, I hope to evoke a sense of connection that resonates with viewers, allowing them to feel something that extends beyond the canvas and into their own experiences.
